VTB (Virtual Test Bed) is a multidisciplinary modeling and simulation environment developed at the University of South Carolina for the design, analysis, and virtual prototyping of complex energy and electromechanical systems. It allows users to assemble high-fidelity system models from a library of reusable components spanning electrical, mechanical, thermal, and control domains. VTB is particularly well suited for studying power electronic converters, drives, energy storage, microgrids, and other dynamic systems where interactions across domains matter.
With an intuitive schematic/block-diagram interface and an extensible component architecture, VTB streamlines rapid design iteration, what-if analysis, and control strategy development. Users can tailor components, integrate custom algorithms, and connect with external tools for co-simulation and data exchange. Scalable from component-level detail to full system behavior, VTB supports research, education, and early-stage engineering decisions by enabling safe, repeatable, and cost-effective virtual experimentation. Developed and maintained by the University of South Carolina, it helps bridge the gap between concept and hardware.
VTB is developed by University of South Carolina. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 1.0, 3.7, 3.8 and 3.9. The names of program executable files are HBClient.exe, SE.exe, VTB.exe and VTBUpdater.exe.
